Both sides of the
argument for or against the reservation policy in India are valid arguments,
however I believe that we should still have the policy in place, but with a
different guidelines on who can receive the benefits the STs, SCs, and OBCs are
currently receiving, and a guideline for those benefits. I believe that the quota system should still
be intact; however I believe that they should only be available for people of
lower economic status, and not for people of lower castes.
The state governments should assign people to this list by taking the
economic status of every family, and only let them be part of the quota system
if their economic status is lower than some value. This will allow people of
the higher castes not to fight with the lower castes, because the current
problem is because people of the lower castes receiving the benefits when they
don’t necessarily need and require the benefits of the quota system.
I also believe
that once a family is part of the quota system, that there should be a set
number of years the family can be in the system for, until they have to survive
on their own. This will allow families to learn to strive for themselves, and
it will also open new spots for new families to join in the quota system if
they needed to. Also this will discourage families from bathing in the benefits
of the quota system, because they would know that they couldn’t have the
benefits they are receiving for forever.
This will help in the demand and supply portion, because more people
will be able to be supplied with the benefits, and there will be less people
that will eligible to part of the quota system, thus it wouldn’t cost the
government more many than necessary. This
policy that I suggest would be politically feasible, because currently Indian
politics are united under the reservation system, thus both political parties
would agree to this conclusion. Thus, I believe that Parliament of India
repeal article 15 in the constitution because it promotes corruption, supports
the caste system, creates tension between religion, creates conflict between
castes, leads to deterioration of the jobs in public services, conflicts with
another amendment in the constitution, and creates moral injustice, but replace
it with another policy that will reserve the benefits of the reservation system
because it will allow equal religious representation, give equal opportunities,
and lower economic classes will receive more opportunities to prove themselves.
